Northern Taiwan Day Trip Ideas
A friend is looking for day trip ideas in Northern Taiwan. These were the first to come to mind that were reasonable based upon public transportation from Linkou-林口.
I figured I’d share them and see what else you might think of to add. Please leave a comment with your suggestions.
- Danshui at north end of red line from Taipei main
- Xindian and Bitan at south end of green line from Taipei main station
- Ride the brown line, it’s mostly all above ground and takes you through some pretty areas of Taipei. Idea is to take 920 to Banciao or Xinpu, then blue line to Nan?? on other end of Taipei, then shuttle bus to end of brown line, ride brown till through Taipei till at Taipei zoo, then take ?? bus back to city hall and then city hall Linkou bus home
- Keelung via Taipei main station West bus station
- Visit Fulong via 920 to Banciao, go to train station, take local express or faster train to Fulong, north bound, at Fulong rent bicycle ride through tunnel to the right of train station about 2-3 kilometers away to East Coast, come back and eat lunch box, then ride beach bike paths, then reverse trains and buses home. Start early for leisurely day.
- Visit Jiaoxi and rent scooters for goofing off in Yilan. If you want to spend night though, book a room before leaving early from Linkou. Get there by taking early Capital bus from City Hall MRT to Jiaoxi or ride train from Banciao, similar to Fulong trip.
- If you can get a room for a night in Hualien, head there via express train from Banciao or Taipei Main Station and rent scooters to cruise along beach and head up into Taroko Gorge.
- Drop into Taoyuan via Chang Gung hospital bus for an afternoon of wondering around an inland city and markets
