Happy Birthday to me

Thank you Srijan, online friends, family and Christina for making my 38th birthday one to remember.

A special thank you to Delhi Transportation Company for giving me the longest commute to work yet, at almost 3 hours. Of course the tourist taxi wanting 200 Rupees, English speaking rickshaw driver passing up 40 and the smiling, no hassle Hindi rickshaw driver that I gave 20 despite meter reading only 13.5 get special honors.

Bisque sugar donut - Gurgaon Central ArcadeIn bicycling to work, I continued to crush the typical bus and metro commute by over an hour each way. Thankfully, no weekday flats.

Bicycling to work 1:02; taking bus and metro 2:15.

Folks think I’m crazy to bicycle from Gurgaon to Delhi. I think folks are nuts to spend 4-6 hours a day commuting. I’ve got a round trip in under 2.5 hours and am in better shape for it. They’re getting enhanced Delhi bellies.

Come Saturday morning, 9 kilometers into my 95 km ride, 1 pointy rock, 1 flat. In putting on the first spare, I found a missed puncture. In attempting the second spare, I broke my pump.

Actually, the pump had unscrewed itself over the past two thousand kilometers and stopped giving air under pressure. After fixing the pump and had gotten the second spare tube on, as I was coming up to riding pressure of 95 psi, pffttt.

flat, flat, pfftttIn combining the pump heating air up and vibrations, the valve separated from the tube.

Well, that’s it for a day of riding as I had gone through 3 tubes in a foot of space. So much for my much desired flight.

Interestingly, on September 6, a rhesus monkey came into the office through an open window and decided that apples were better than blackberries.

Yes, it’s true and yes, it’s a geek joke too.
