Biking Taiwan: Linkou-林口 to Dayuan-大圓 – Giant group ride
Sunday afternoon found me riding on yet another Linkou-林口 Giant shop group ride. This time, towards Dayuan-大圓 to the airport overlook coffee shop. As we wanted to avoid the afternoon typhoon rains, we’d be making haste for the expected 40 kilometer trip. Making this one of the faster group rides I’ve been on yet, with averaging 20 kph.
After leaving the Linkou Giant shop at Wenhua 2nd Road-文化二路 and Zhongxiao Road-忠孝路, we rode out towards 106 to bomb down the curves onto 15 south at the Linkou plateau bottom. Once we had gotten past the abandoned beach house just north of Dayuan, it started raining. With that, we turned around and headed back.
Once we got back to 106 and a few kilometers up, it was said that we wouldn’t go back up 106, but along an alternate route. Excellent, I love new routes!
We’d go up 106 a bit further, but instead of starting the real climb at the bus stop, we’d hang a right and head towards Nanshan along the valley edge. I really couldn’t believe the lushness here and while we missed the rain showers dearth, the valley hadn’t. It was a great feeling to ride quickly along freshly cleansed farm lands. Getting up into the valley showed some public works money greatly spent for a few people.
After crossing the fancy bridge, we were back onto riding farm roads about 2 meters wide before getting through a little community to begin the real climb up between kilometer 29 to 32. I finally had to use a granny gear while on a group ride. I liked the climb enough and saw enough that I will make this a more frequent ride.
Once at the top of the climb, we rested shortly to let the group reform and then it was off to the Giant shop for recovery via baked meat pies, Supao and beer.
Thank you Mr. Wang and James for the great ride!
