Life in Taiwan: Week of May 17, 2010

It’d be nice to say last week was exciting, but other than reviewing our Chinese book for Monday’s final and biking, it was normal.

On Saturday morning, after riding down from Linkou-林口 to Danshui-淡水, I hooked up with Nathan Miller, Falcon (F-16 pilot) and Dylan (Navy diver). The goal was to ride about 100 kilometers to Jinshan-金山 and back.

Dylan & Falcon on 北21The back roads, hills and valleys we hit before dropping into Jinshan parallel to Yangjin-楊金 road are the nicest I know of in northern Taiwan. Lots of valley views, rice terraces, temples, friendly smiles and much more.

Since the ride was a first ride of the season for the military guys, we kept the return nearly climbless by speeding back to Danshui along the coast via 2.

I highly recommend this ride. The map is at right on this post’s page.
