This morning started oh so wonderfully, up at 7 AM and on the bike riding down the road on my favored Linkou－林口 > Bali－八里 > Guanyinshan－觀音山 route by 7:15 AM. Though last week was quite restful, the ride was going well. No stopping along the way other than the stop lights. Ah, such a lovely, lovely ride.
Then just a few kilometers from home, BAMM!!! I’m on the ground at a Linkou intersection wondering just what the heck happened.
It seems I fell victim to Taiwan street conditions. A pothole that wasn’t there last week, was now gaping and laughing up at me.
Despite the pace I was at, I’m surprisingly in good shape. My right hand received the worst of the visual wounds underneath my gloves.
However, I’m waiting for the 10 centimeter bruise on my right inner knee to come through where I whacked the handlebar strong enough to force it around 180 degrees and stay.
For the bike itself, seems a little truing of the front wheel is needed, but not as much as I’d expect from similar crashes in years past.
So, after many close calls of the past year, I finally met the road and it was sore.
Ouch – man I hope you are ok.
Will be riding this weekend – hope to put in a long ride – care to join?
